SOME FAVORITE AUTHORS AND ARTISTS
Here is just a short list of some authors and artists I
- Pete Fromm A large percentage of Pete's work
revolves around the outdoors, hunting, fishing, etc. But it would
to classify him as someone who writes about nature, because underlying
his work is an indelible human dynamic that is nothing less than
enthralling. In other words, it's not about the fish; it's not
about the quaint
idyllic idea of fishing; it's more about our link to nature. I
read his Indian Creek Chronicles, the story of his college
adventure of a winter in the Bitterroot wilderness protecting fish
It's funny at times, and always holds one's attention. (It
a good read over the course of a winter week.) Then there are a
of short story texts, all of which are excellent. I've not yet
his latest works, which are novels. He comes late to the business
of writing and in strange way, but don't underestimate his literary
he himself tends to do.
- Charles Fritz Fritz is a painter who
concentrates on nature scenes. (Detect a theme here?
Maybe.) I like
his series of prints related to the adventures of Lewis and Clark.
A friend gave me the book In the Beginning was the Command
which eloquently elicucidates the historical culture of the major
in the hardware, software, operating system and graphical user
world, i.e., Apple, Micro$oft, GNU/Linux and BeOS. There are also
few observations relating to American and world culture. A very
writer... Regarding the premise of In the Beginning...,
notes on his web page that the essay could use some rework, as in the
few years he has been working with Mac OS X. However, with Jobs
back in the fold, the company has, intentionally it seems, tried
the right balance between what it used to be and the GNU/Linux
of software evolution.
